Michael W. Mitchel, Position 6

MICHAEL W. MITCHEL graduated from Perryton High School, Perryton, Texas.  He received his B.S. degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Law.  Mr. Mitchel is a Senior Partner in the law firm of Mitchel, Gaston, Riffel & Riffel, P.L.L.C and has practiced law in Northwestern Oklahoma for thirty-five years.  The firm has offices in Alva, Woodward, Fairview and Enid. Mr. Mitchel is a member of the Woodward County Bar Association, Oklahoma Association for Justice, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Woodward Chamber of Commerce, 101 Classic Bowl Foundation and the Woodward Industrial Foundation. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Oklahoma Bar Association where he served as Vice-President and on the Board of Governors of the OBA.  The OBA awarded him the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in 1981.  He has served on numerous OBA committees and has been a guest lecturer for its Continuing Legal Education seminars. Mr. Mitchel has also served on the Oklahoma State Board of Vocational and Technical Education for two (2) terms and the State Board of Education for one term and additional term of two (2) years prior to his appointment to the Board of Regents.  He received the Oklahoma Vocational Association Distinguished Service Award.  He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation. He is one of the founding board of directors of the 101 Classic Bowl Foundation which invites over 500 high school students to participate in all star football and basketball game and a cheerleader and band clinic each Memorial Day in Woodward as part of the 101 Classic Bowl.   The foundation has awarded over $80,000.00 in academic scholarships to high school students in the tri-state area since its inception.  He was a founding director of the Boiling Springs Golf Association which has created and built a 18 hole championship golf course at Boiling Spring State Park. Mr. Mitchel also owns and operates KMZE FM 92 radio station in Woodward which continues to spotlight the high school academic and athletic events in the area.  He is a partner in Omni Broadcasting, Inc. which owns and operates a digital TV station (KOMI TV) covering the Woodward and surrounding areas.   Mr. Mitchel is involved in real estate development and is a partner in Prospective Investment, Inc. which owns and operates the 101 Centre in Woodward, Oklahoma. He and his wife, Connie, have three children and live in Alva, Oklahoma.  He enjoys sports, golf and his hobby of sports broadcasting.
